Short Stories, Rants and Observations

What would you ask

Reading Time: 3 minutesFour people gathered for the feedback they dreaded. The four were from a varied background and had no idea how they were brought together for this face to face exchange. In fact three of them thought they had literally stumbled into this rather odd gathering, one was well aware that his presence was deliberate. What would you ask them to do?

The face behind this reckoning kept a very low profile in this world of social media and internet based relationships but knew all about the four standing before him. So much so that he’d carefully selected them to justify their ridiculous claims, crimes and online boasts.

The scene in this dank room as the four shuffled about, finding the corners, had cheap written all over it, bad decor, stale smells and suited the implausible pretext for their presence. the face did not design the scene or mood by accident, it was a deliberate attempt to disarm and distract the four from the real purpose at hand, only the face knew the real reason and only the face would reveal the details, when they should be.

A fan of horror

One of the four, a horror film fan was convinced that he’d stumbled into a scene from Saw and was relieved to see that he was not caught in a trap. He had done some pretty bad things in his day, theft, fraud and was rather proud to be misogynistic, homophobic, racist and yes even more, he had left the scene of a motor accident that lead to the death of a pedestrian. Yes, he was a politician.

The second of this gathering was a vibrant and good looking young woman who took the common law rights of man to mean the rights of “her” only, no such need today, but she brought an attitude that raised the hackles of the men in this room. Almost immediately they thought that no matter how good-looking she was, she was a pain in the bum. She was. She had also been hustling older men out of their hard earned in many an elaborate scam, the ultimate honeypot, diseased, angry and drug affected.

Participant number three was a very lonely and less than worldly dork that had no idea of how the world was run, who ran it, how they got away with it and how to enjoy such a life. He irritated nearly all that he met and was very surprised when they reacted, as they normally did. He was a bitter twisted individual that had no redeeming features other than he paid his taxes and as he’d been working for a long time – he’d paid heaps.

Number four was a completely different soul. A male model type with a six pack, tight shirt and the obligatory two days growth carefully sculptured into a “weak as piss” beard. He thought that the world revolved around his needs, as we all do I suppose, but he had some reason for thinking this way. His contract and substantial earnings meant that loads of male and female sycophants met his every whim. Not today though. His defect is harder to see, his frightening and leading role in scaring the young has been swept under carpet.

The session begins

So what’s this actually mean. I ask that you offer a task for each of the four to redeem themselves in the light of modern thinking, what would you ask them to do or change about themselves to be a better person, that’s on the pretext of you thinking they may need to change. So you are the face – please leave your task in the comments and we’ll see how this craziness works out.

What could they do or say to redeem themselves ?

one – the politician

two – the woman

three – the dork

four – the model

Okay Tbaoo…this is going to take me way more thought than I have the brains to do tonight so I’m going to come back later in the weekend to give you my input. Been a long day and I’m toast LOL. But did want you to know that I had been here 🙂 and I’ll be back!

Adriene

Alan, I think you are looking for the cure to the world’s ills. If only we knew what to do with the desperate, lonely, mean, and damaged …

tbaoo

so very true adriene .. 😉 thanks

i’m fascinated by the reaction to these four people.

the girl is described as guilty of hustling older men out of their hard earned in many an elaborate scam, the ultimate honeypot, diseased, angry and drug affected.

the model, well maybe i was a bit obtuse, he’s guilty of pedophilia

the politician well it’s pretty clear i thought – and;

the dork, just guilty of being completely unaware of the world around him, he’s not a geek.

any-who, it’s an interesting exercise for me at least ..

Dangerous Linda

very intriguing post.

i have a firm belief that it is not my job to tell others how to live their lives or ‘redeem’ themselves. the best i can do here is to see my own personal qualities ‘mirrored’ by each of the four participants before me, which, i believe is the point of reacting to others’ ‘inadequacies’ anyway:

1. where do i lie, steal and cheat to get my own way or win popularity? although, my personal crimes are not as extreme, i have driven by a pan handler without giving him money, or even a blessing, and then still pretend to be a generous person with my friends.

2. where do i use people, especially men, to get what i want for my own selfish purposes? i’m aggravated with my younger son for being unavailable lately to connect with me. i’m working on letting him be himself without being beholden to my ego ideas of how a ‘good son’ should act.

3. i am kind of a dork myself, as shown, probably, by my interpretation of this task. i’m not sure if i should redeem myself by becoming more comfortable with my dorkiness or by trying to be more ‘hip’ and less ‘deep’ like the most others. maybe the answer is a little of both.

4. where do i gloss over the reality of who i am to impress people, and set that example for others who admire me? i do have a stylist who picks out my clothes, but, i’ve been practicing picking out clothes for myself every once in a while, too. baby steps forward …

i will be looking forward to seeing how everybody else approaches your assignment 😉

tbaoo

thank you very much linda and yes it will be very interesting to see how the responses pan out .. your take on the task is also very intriguing – cheers 😉
