My sense of humour is threatened

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’m losing my sense of humour, it’s being sapped by tawdry, second rate television and an overdose of “brain numbingly dumbed down”, loosely described as entertainment offerings. The most ridiculous aspect of this recent turn of events, is that the only laughing I seem to enjoy nowadays is laughing “at” the media. My sense of humour is threatened as the days of clever or even just funny comedy is dwindling.

How am I going to locate such clever comedy or good entertainment ? Well, I’ll keep looking at the 4,876 channels of cable television I have, although 4,875 of them seem to be sport or so called reality vomitous. The reality they offer is far removed from my idea of reality though. Who give a flying rat’s arse about a group of pig ignorant people and their arguments, well 400 million odd people it seems.

They can make thousands of dollars a second by just farting in a cynical marketing campaign for special farts and the unwashed public laps it up. So the fart manufacturers pay handsomely for the exposure. It all smells very off to me.

What about we think up some new television material or some major script ideas for motion picture types to produce. These are the types that focus on business success, not artistic merit. Surely don’t call me Shirley graphic novels must have done their dash by now, are there any of them left that haven’t been flogged, or buggered up, or is that dipping our toes into an overtly adult realm.

How about we look at some of the best films ever made, do they in fact all fall into the mind deadening genre, the only difference being that they are made in a different decade or centuries. Is “Gone with the Wind” just a time specific offering of a later generation’s American pie, or is Porky’s. Does The Hangover pay homage to “Some Like it Hot”?

What about “Everyone loves Raymond” ? is that just a piss poor version, trying to capture the sheer brilliance that is “Seinfeld” – btw – the older mother in that show is a classic talent but she’s lonely in that tv offering. Would you believe a promo for that trash has just been aired as I typed this.

Modern Family, Arrested Development, Shameless, the world’s best social commentary – The Simpsons, Family Guy, Criminal Intent with Bobby, True Blood, X Files are just some examples of the fairly major point i’m trying to make that quality does exist, it can be thought out, paid for, can be made and will provide a good return. there are thousands of examples of course, it’s just that I can’t be blown to type them all out.

Crime, drama and comedy and of course music are vital to keeping me occupied. I hope they provide stimulus to you dear reader? If they do, please vote with your patronage, don’t watch the shit, only watch the good.

I realise that that sounds pretty silly, i.e one man or woman’s shit is another’s quality, but please decide to dedicate yourself to getting rid of the reality of today and ask for another version of that reality. Maybe my version.

I only watch the movie channels, all other programs are an insult to your intelligence and brainwashing propaganda. Now and again I’ll turn on the news which is nothing more than celebrity gossip.

On another note, here’s to a prosperous 2012 :o)

I like good comedy, but haven’t seen one lately, unless you count Fox News!

I think you have a point there… But it will depend to a person to choose what they want to watch. Humor is every where.. Just don’t stop your self for giving humor on your blogs… Thanks for sharing your views.
